Spinal cord injuries can be caused by sudden, violent events such as crushes, falls, sports injuries or heavy and sharp objects that damage any part of the spinal cord or the nerves around. Moreover, diseases such as cancer, arthritis or inflammation might be responsible for spinal cord injury. All of the above might have permanent changes in strength, sensation and relative body functions that affect the patient’s life. However, spinal cord injuries can be improved by rehabilitation programs that aim in the prevention of further injury and in the re-adaption of the patient to his/hers previous activities.
